The Moose Jaw Ice were unable to find the win column at the Softball Saskatchewan provincial U14 and U19 ‘A’ championships this past weekend, with both of the local squads putting together 0-4 records at their respective events.

At the U14 South provincial tournament, the Ice went winless in their games on Aug. 6 and 7 before closing out the event with a 15-3 loss to the Regina Rippers.

Moose Jaw got off to a solid start and only trailed 6-3 after the first inning, but five Regina runs in the second inning things up and a four-spot in the third invoked the mercy rule.

The Rippers had only nine hits in the game, but five Ice errors would contribute to their outbreak of runs. Maddie Cruz pitched and went the distance, allowing only four earned runs out of the 15, striking out a pair and walking five.

The Ice had a total of three hits, with Jakson McAuley going 1-for-2 with a run scored. Taya Molde and Kyra Menzies had their other knocks; Blake Maltais and Kenzie Martel also crossed the plate.

The U19 Ice, meanwhile, lost their final round-robin game 8-1 to the Saskatoon Selects, but even with the lopsided final score found themselves in a competitive contest -- the Selects didn’t have any big innings, scoring three in the first, leading 5-0 through two and 7-0 through three before Moose Jaw scored their lone run.

Mykayla Fysh finished the game 2-for-2 and knocked home Kletzel with that score.
