Almost all of Saskatchewan and parts of southern Manitoba is under an extreme cold warning from Weather Canada on Tuesday, including Moose Jaw and the surrounding area.
An Arctic ridge of high pressure has brought frigid temperatures to the prairies, reaching as low as the -30s with 10 to 15 km/h winds producing a windchill in the -40s.
A period of very cold winds is expected, with a potential period of relief in the afternoon. Some regions may see this extreme cold last throughout the night and into Wednesday morning.
Residents are urged to take care in these conditions, said Weather Canada, and to stay inside or cover up when outside. These extreme temperatures can see frostbite develop within minutes on exposed skin.
Young children, older adults, pets, and those spending prolonged periods of time outside without proper shelter are also urged to take care.
