MJPS uses Taser to subdue person after responding to 911 call

MOOSE JAW — On Aug. 12, at approximately 11:50 p.m., the Moose Jaw Police Service attended a residence on the 600 block of Caribou Street West after a 911 call was received of an individual threatening to harm themselves.

Once on the scene, officers learned that the individual had locked themselves inside a room within the residence and was in possession of a knife.

Officers were able to gain entry into the room and noticed the individual had suffered injuries to themselves. The individual then began approaching the officers, brandishing a knife. Police then deployed a conducted energy weapon (CEW), commonly referred to as a Taser, and safely gained control of the situation.

The individual was transported to the hospital by EMS, where they received medical attention.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
