MOOSE JAW — On April 28, an amended traffic bylaw was passed at city council to reduce the speed limit from 40 km/h to 30 km/h in playground zones within Moose Jaw.

The amended bylaw will now be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., seven days a week, once the regulatory signage has been changed to reflect the new speed limit.

The City of Moose Jaw began installing new signposts and signage around playground zones on May 20. The signage update project for Moose Jaw’s playground zones will take approximately one month to complete. Speed limits will be adjusted at 18 playground zone locations within Moose Jaw.

During the city’s installation period, the Moose Jaw Police Service will be offering a grace period in playground zones that have newly installed 30 km/h signage, in an effort to educate the public on the new playground zones’ speed restrictions.

Officers will continue to issue tickets if the vehicle's speed is in excess of the previously posted 40 km/h playground zone. The grace period began on May 20 and continue until 11:59 pm on June 20. At this time, officers will enforce all zones according to the posted signage at that location.

Motorists are reminded to use caution when in a playground zone, as children may be present.
