UPDATED: Police get man off ledge on Fourth Avenue bridge

The Moose Jaw Police Service blocked off the Fourth Avenue Bridge to traffic just before 2 p.m. this afternoon and directed traffic away from the area as they attempted to bring down a possible jumper.

The Moose Jaw Police Service blocked off the Fourth Avenue bridge just before 2 p.m. this afternoon and directed traffic away from the area as officers attempted to coax a man away from the ledge.

The MJPS crisis negotiators and Police and Crisis Team (PACT) responded and were successful in bringing the man to safety, according to the police service. As the man walked onto the middle of the bridge, he held up what appeared to be a gun but was actually his hand. However, uniformed and plainclothes officers took no chances and jumped on him and restrained him since he refused to co-operate peacefully.

The man will receive mental health counselling and perhaps jail if the investigation requires it, the police added.

More details will come as they are released.
