Saskatchewan’s workers will get a bit of a boost this fall.

The Government of Saskatchewan has announced that the province’s minimum wage will increase from $11.32 to $11.45 per hour on October 1, 2020.

This will be the 12th increase to minimum wage in the province since 2007. Back then, the minimum wage was just $7.95.

Despite the increase, Saskatchewan still has the lowest minimum wage in the country. More information about minimum wage rates in Canada is available through the Retail Council of Canada's website.

“We have established sustainable and predictable minimum wage increases,” Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said in a press release. “This helps families plan ahead and creates an environment for new workers to enter the workforce.”

Every year Saskatchewan’s minimum wage is calculated using an indexation formula. It gives equal weight to changes to the Consumer Price Index and Average Hourly Wage for Saskatchewan.

Increases are announced by June 30 and take effect on Oct. 1 of each year.
