Metis Nation Saskatchewan seeking election nominations

Papers to be filed to chief electoral officer or regional office by April 29, election slated for May 29

The Saskatchewan Metis Election is just over a month away, and nominations are continuing to be accepted.

The election includes candidates for each of the four executive offices -- president, vice president, secretary and treasurer -- as well as representatives for each of the 12 MN-S regions.

As of April 26, four individuals have been nominated for president, including Clem Chartier, Karen Larocque, Glen Hector McCallum and Mary Ann Morin. Four nominations have also been received for vice president in Darrel Burnouf, Darren Deschambault, Michelle LeClair and Dale McAuley while five have been received for secretary (Beckie Belanger, May Henerson, Lisa McCallum, Craig Henry Morin and Ashley Norton) and two for treasurer (Louis G. Gardiner and Dennis Langan).

Moose Jaw and area are in Western Region 3, which extends in a straight line down from Regina to the U.S. border and north from Strasbourg, Craik, Lucky Lake and Leader down to the border. There are currently three nominations for the WR3 regional representative in Wendy Gervais, Wayne McKenzie and Calvin Racette.

Candidates looking to add their name to any of the five lists can be nominated for only one position and are encouraged to file their nomination papers early to regional returning officer Helen Sukovieff at wr3@mnselection.ca.
