The Moose Jaw Mavericks will look to remain undefeated on the season when they return to action in Sask Female Hockey U15 A League action this coming weekend.

The Mavericks improved to 2-0-1 with a 5-3 win over the Regina Rebels White this past Saturday and followed with a 3-3 draw in the return match Sunday.

They’re back in action Friday when they host the 1-1 Weyburn Gold Wings (7 p.m., Red Knight Arena) before traveling to Weyburn for the re-match on Sunday evening.

Mavericks 5, Rebels White 3

Moose Jaw scored four straight goals from late in the first through the midway point of the second and held off a Regina third-period comeback to secure the victory.

Regina got on the board only 56 seconds into the game, but Jenika Stevenson would get one back shorthanded with 4:49 remaining in the period and was followed by Morgan Loney with 19 seconds left for a 2-1 lead.

Kaydance Ray extended that edge to two goals 1:16 into the second and Kiana Hrechka would make it 4-1 with a power play marker at the 9:01 mark.

The Rebels would get one back before the period was out and would close the gap to a single goal six minutes into the third, but Stevenson’s second shorthanded goal of the game with 1:45 to play would close things out.

Sara Umana earned the win in goal.

Mavericks 3, Rebels 3

The Mavericks couldn’t hold off another Rebels comeback in the rematch the next night -- Regina would score the only goals of the third period to salvage the tie.

Ray would provide all the offence for Moose Jaw, scoring 30 seconds into the game with the only goal of the first period. She added her second marker at the 6:38 mark of the second and capped off the hat trick with 1:29 remaining in the period.

That 3-1 lead wouldn’t hold, though, as Regina would get back within one 3:51 into the third and would tie the game four minutes later.

Umana went the distance in net.
