As a recent returnee to the Friendly City I have spent the last few weeks getting reacquainted with my hometown. Attending Sidewalk Days, strolling through Crescent Park and darkening the entrances of a few old haunts. The enhancements, development, and growth of city have been amazing in the over two decades since I moved away.
However...
The roads are gross, dude.
While the avenues and arteries are in a state of decay, I will, as the song goes, endeavour to accentuate the positive. For instance:
- The condition of the roads makes for natural traffic calming measures.
- The city could find a new revenue stream by renting out our streets to NASA. They will soon be sending missions to the moon and where better to practice driving lunar vehicles than on a similar surface.
- Moose Jaw could, if it hasn’t already become a market city for car repairs and chiropractors, and
- Who needs to go to the fair when you can ride the roller-coaster that is High Street.
To be fair, where I moved from the streets weren’t exactly paved in gold and I realize there is no infrastructure fairy who waves a wand to repair roads without recompense but my car frame, not to mention my arthritic one sure could use some relief.
Roads aside, I have enjoyed my return immensely.
