Letter to the Editor: How I feel about my MP – Cypress Hills – Grasslands

Disgusted, ashamed, embarrassed. These words describe how I feel about my MP, the MP for Cypress Hills—Grasslands, appearing in videos with, and giving comfort to, an avowed white supremacist-Pat King-who drove through Swift Current on the way to Ottawa.

My MP in particular, and the Conservative Party in general, is fawning over a person that can be seen repeating racist conspiracy theories and saying that “the Anglo-Saxon race has the strongest bloodlines”. King also appears in self-made videos saying that bullets are the only way to make political change and that 6 million Jews were not murdered in the Holocaust.

MP Patzer issued a statement later, saying “I have no association with Mr. King, nor any awareness of what he stands for.” This unconvincing milquetoast statement comes from a person who literally gets paid by taxpayers to know who he is shaking hands with.

Conservatives used to come in two flavours—Red Tories and Blue Tories. With the actions and statements of MPs Patzer, Scheer, Bergen, and Poilievre, we now seem to have Brown-Shirt Conservatives to add to the mix.

I’m convinced that there are thousands of logical, rational Conservatives in Cypress Hills-Grasslands who are good neighbours and friends. Don’t repeat MP Patzer’s mistake and follow King down his rabbit hole of hate, bigotry and racism.

Yours truly,
Stewart Wells
