Letter to the Editor: The parking lot at Kinsmen Sportsplex

A letter to the editor from Darleen Warren

The Kinsmen Sportsplex in our fine city of Moose Jaw is a wonderful facility for families & taxpayers . However, I do not want other patrons to occur vehicle damage from the parking lot as I did. There is one parking stall barricade in the north parking lot that has 4 -5 inch rebar protruding from the top- enough length to really mess up any vehicles front bumper, even a Honda truck as mine.

My damage claim was denied by the city of Moose Jaw - “The Cities Act defines negligence “.

I have a difficult time accepting this as “negligence“ on my part . The “negligence “ should be on the city of Moose Jaw as they have left rebar on this one barricade when all the other barricades are free of rebar . Was there no safety inspection done after installation? No supervisor available to checkup and approve the installation?

My damage claim for $349.52 was submitted on October 27, 2022. After three calls to the city comptroller to check on the claim status, my claim was finally sent to Claimspro in Lloydminster SK. My claim was denied and finally sent back on March 28, 2023 , over 5 months later!

And the rebar still exists on that parking stall barricade! Bent and twisted - evidence of more than just my vehicle that has occurred damage!
