Minor football U12 final 2
The Estevan Chargers will once again be looking for a Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football league championship.

The regular season and early rounds of the playoffs are in the books, now it’s time to decide who will emerge as champions from Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football.

Both the Under-12 and Under-14 title games are slated for Saturday afternoon at Elk’s Field, and both contests will feature teams plenty familiar with winning this season.

In the U12 division, the defending champion Estevan Chargers will do battle with the Moose Jaw Lions.

The Lions capped the regular season in first place with a perfect 6-0 record, including a 28-12 victory over the Chargers when the two teams met back on Sept. 9 in Estevan.

The U12 playoffs opened with the Weyburn Ravens taking a 33-6 victory over the Assiniboia Rockets on Oct. 11 in the fourth-fifth place game, followed by the Lions taking a 45-8 win over Weyburn in the semifinal.

The Chargers put together a 5-1 record, including two of the highest-scoring games in recent league history during their two matchups with Weyburn: a 96-50 win on Sept. 27 and 92-52 victory on Oct. 7. Estevan found themselves in a far lower scoring game in the semifinal, taking a 20-13 win over the Moose Jaw Spartans on Oct. 14.

Things were exceptionally close all season in the U14 division, with both the Swift Current Steelers and Moose Jaw Raiders putting together 4-2 records before advancing to the final.

The teams met twice this season and little was decided -- the Raiders took a 20-6 victory in the opening game of the season at Elk’s Field on Sept. 2 and the Steelers replied with a 27-12 win in the rematch in Swift Current on Sept. 10.

The Weyburn Falcons took a 40-0 win over the Estevan Oilers in the fourth-fifth place game on Oct. 13, after which the Steelers defeated Weyburn 17-0 in the semifinal.

The Raiders booked their spot in the title game with a 34-14 win over the Moose Jaw Vikings on Oct. 16.

The U12 championship game is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. and U14 title game for 6 p.m., with both contests at Elk’s Field.
