On Apr. 6, Laura Hamilton will be opening her workspace to the public for her fourth annual Spring Studio Tour and everyone is welcome to stop by.

Hamilton is a local artist from right here in Moose Jaw, and she enjoys interacting with the public in regards to her art; last year’s studio tour saw a great turnout of visitors, and Hamilton was thrilled with the reception.

Her studio is located in her home, and the open house is her way of offering people the chance to explore her work and chat about the stories behind each piece. She will have her workspace set up with some works in progress, and the rest of the main floor will be a display of her paintings.

Hamilton’s goal is to give people a view of her work in a variety of stages and to bring together a group of people interested in her art.

“I love welcoming people into our home and getting to chat with them and share stories about where the painting ideas come from,” said Hamilton. “They get to come right into my studio to see where I paint and I usually have paintings that are works in progress, so they get to see them at different stages and how I work that way.”

The open house will have music and snacks, and a number of Hamilton’s works for sale; she’s even offering 15% off canvas reproductions, a sale that only happens once a year at this event. Also available will be other merchandise, such as tote bags, pillows, and notebooks, displayed in a way Hamilton calls “an intimate shopping experience.”

Hamilton says there is always lots of interest when she hosts the event, and people come from as far as Saskatoon to see her studio.

“It's always been amazing and people really, really look forward to it. So I think if I didn't do it, people would be very disappointed,” said Hamilton. “Some people will come and go through quickly. Other people will stay for a few hours. It's pretty crazy. They just kind of make themselves at home and start visiting, and I visit with them.”

The studio is located at 128 Blue Sage Dr., and Hamilton will have both her sign and a bicycle with helium-filled balloons outside to indicate which house. She encourages people to stop in between 10am and 5pm, and to bring friends, family, children, and anyone else they know.
