The Humane Society will host a Valentine's Day dinner in February, to raise funds for the shelter

Funds raised at the Humane Society’s Valentine’s Day dinner will help more shelter cats like Salem, pictured here, especially during the winter.

The Moose Jaw Humane Society will be hosting a Valentine’s Day supper as a fundraiser for the shelter and its animals but they’ve organized the event with a bit of a twist — it’s not on Valentine’s Day.

“It is a non-Valentine's Day Valentine's dinner, for those of us that don't appreciate going out on Valentine’s Day with the hustle and bustle,” said Amanda Tetarenko, from the Humane Society.

The fundraiser will take place on Feb. 15 at the Canadian Brewhouse, to maintain that Valentine’s Day vibe but without the busy crowds of the romantic holiday itself. The evening will feature a prime rib dinner and a 50-50 raffle, and a chance to support the Humane Society.

Minors are welcome at the Brewhouse until 8 p.m., and the dinner itself will kick off at 5 p.m.

“It can be a be a family non-Valentine's day Valentine's dinner, whatever works for you and your family, but it's a great opportunity to come out, support the shelter,” said Tetarenko.

All the funds raised will go back to the Humane Society to help with the various operating costs for the shelter, especially as the shelter generally sees an influx of cats during cold weather months.

“The funds raised go towards the shelter here, as always,” said Tetarenko. “With the cold weather comes more animals coming in, [and] our medical expenses and our day to day expenses are always high.”

Tickets for the fundraiser dinner are $20 and can be purchased at the Humane Society.
