MOOSE JAW — The Moose Jaw Humane Society (MJHS) is gearing up for a busy June, with a series of events planned to raise funds, boost awareness, and showcase some of the many adoptable pets currently calling the shelter home.

Burger flips and festival booths

The shelter’s first stop is a lunchtime barbecue at Moose Jaw Ford on Friday, June 13, running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors can enjoy a burger and meet some of the shelter’s adoptable pets on-site.

Moose Jaw Ford is located at 1010 North Service Road.

On Saturday, June 14, the MJHS team will travel to the Mortlach Saskatoon Berry Festival, where supporters can browse branded clothing, kids’ stickers and temporary tattoos, or pick up a ticket for the shelter’s ongoing annual 4 Paws Lottery.

Hometown Parade

The MJHS will make a special appearance in the Hometown Parade on Thursday, June 19, starting at 7 p.m. along Main Street North. Watch for the shelter’s “cute van,” alongside adoptable dogs walking the route. Volunteers will be handing out treats for both children and four-pawed friends along the way.

Books, barbecues, and a shot at $10,000

Back at the shelter, a combined book sale and barbecue event is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can fill a bag of books from the shelter’s on-site bookstore for only $10, grab a burger and drink combo for $5, and shop for branded hoodies, tees, and other humane society gear.

Tickets for the ongoing 4 Paws Lottery will also be available — with a grand prize of $10,000 up for grabs.

The lottery draw date will include five cash prizes, with four draws of $500 each and one grand prize draw for the chance to win $10,000, on Monday, July 7.

Dog-friendly tradeshow at the Brewhouse

On Sunday, June 22, shelter staff and volunteers will be at the Canadian Brewhouse patio for a dog-friendly tradeshow hosted by the Maker’s Corner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is free, and patrons can bring their dogs for a relaxing afternoon of local shopping, pup cups, and patio drinks. Lottery tickets and humane society-branded clothing will be offered on-site.

Sidewalk Days and final draw

The MJHS will return for Moose Jaw’s Sidewalk Days Festival from July 3 to July 5 before hosting the final lottery draw on July 7.

Proceeds from the 4 Paws Lottery — and all June events — remain local and support urgent veterinary needs, including spays, neuters, emergency surgeries, and illness treatment for animals in the shelter’s care.

How to give back year-round

The shelter is also encouraging residents to become monthly donors, providing consistent, reliable funding to support its lifesaving work.

“Our largest expense each month is our veterinary care,” an official MJHS statement reads. “To the end of April we have spent over $28,000 providing spays and neuters, treating illnesses, and emergency surgeries to give each animal that comes to our door the medical care they deserve.”

Monthly donations are one of the best ways to help out, allowing the shelter to plan ahead and respond quickly when animals are in need.

“We couldn’t do what we do without you! There are no words to properly express our gratitude for the support of our animal-loving community,” the statement continued. “It is because of your support that we can help those who cannot speak for themselves.”
