The upgrade requires 30-90 minutes to complete, during which time the water will be shut off for a brief period. There is no charge for the meter or the installation.

MOOSE JAW – The City of Moose Jaw advises that the city’s contractor, Neptune Technology Group, is distributing door hangers starting this week to properties that have yet to book an appointment to upgrade their water meter to a new smart meter.

This is a mandatory program in accordance with By-Law #5152. The upgrade procedure requires 30-90 minutes to complete, during which time the water will be shut off for a brief period. There is no charge for the meter or the installation. For your convenience, appointments are available Monday to Friday from 8  a.m. to 8  p.m. and Saturdays from 9  a.m. to 6  p.m.

Benefits of the new water meters include:

  • Eliminates the need for utility customers to submit water meter readings.
  • Eliminates the need for utility employees to enter a property.
  • Eliminates the current process of billing estimates, as each billing will be accurate to the date the billing was processed.
  • Eliminates the risk of a faulty reading and mistaken billings.
  • Eliminates the risk of undetected water leaks.

Residents are asked to book an appointment within a week of receiving their letter or immediately following receipt of a door hanger. Property owners who do not book an appointment to receive a new smart meter may be subject to penalties, which could include the termination of water service.

The Smart Water Meter Project was approved by city council in 2020, and Neptune Technologies Group began the project of installing approximately 12,500 in Moose Jaw in November of 2022.
