The CP Holiday Train arrived in Moose Jaw on Dec. 17, to be greeted by the largest donation of all the Canadian stops on the tour.

Moose Jaw reached new heights with their generosity during this year’s CP Holiday Train, now that the final numbers from the North American tour have been tallied.

Through a partnership with the Moose Jaw Co-op, the Good Buy to Hunger campaign collected 14,400 pounds of non-perishable food donations for the Moose Jaw & District Food Bank for the Holiday Train.

This total means Moose Jaw collected the largest volume of donations of any Canadian stop on the 2019 Holiday Train tour, as well as the second-largest volume of donations among the entire 2019 North American tour.

These donations, alongside the $10,000 cheque presented to Food Bank operations manager Terri Smith, will go a long way in helping the Food Bank continue to fill hampers and support the community in the next year.

“It’s been a really hard couple of years but I’m really proud to be a part of a community that will help each other when we’re down, thank you so much,” said Smith, during the cheque presentation on Dec. 17.

The Holiday Train’s Good Buy to Hunger campaign was greatly supported by the community again this year, including a number of local businesses and groups, and the team at CP is grateful to see the positive response.

“I love the CP Holiday Train and am honoured to be a part of this venture as well as this community.  Together, one bag at a time we can make a difference,” said Gabrielle Belanger, support services supervisor at CP. “Thank you Moose Jaw for coming together again to help those who need our community support.”
