Highway to Heroes car show returns for July 16 date

One of the largest car shows to be held in Moose Jaw is back this year with just a slight traffic diversion.

Highway to Heroes, one of the largest car shows to be held in Moose Jaw, is back this year with just a slight traffic diversion.

Sponsored by Friends of the Forces Fellowship (formerly 15 Wing Fellowship), the show was held for five years at 15 Wing Moose Jaw. The last show, in 2018, attracted more than 500 vehicles and 8,000 spectators as well as a performance by the 431 Demonstration Squadron the Snowbirds.

Because of extenuating circumstances, including the two-year Covid pandemic that shut down most activities in both civilian and military life, and because of training schedules at 15 Wing, the sixth Highway to Heroes Car Show has been moved to the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds.

The show is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 with show car gates opening at 8:30 a.m. and spectator walk-in gates open at 10 a.m. Events will continue until at least 4 p.m., and will include viewing of the cars, trucks and motorcycles expected to attend, a silent auction, raffle and 50-50 draws, food concessions and related car show displays.

There will also be music for the entertainment of car owners and spectators. Jet Stream and Second Line Brass Band Ensembles of the RCAF Band program will attend the show and will be featured throughout the day. Second Line Brass will perform outdoors among the vehicles while Jet Stream will perform in concert format indoors in the Exhibition Convention Centre. Times for those performances have yet to be determined.

The car show organizers are delighted to have the RCAF musical groups at the show and invite Moose Jaw and district residents to attend the performances.

Gate admission will be $10 for adults; $5 for 6-12 years; and free for pre-school age.

Organizers are appreciative of local and area businesses who are once again contributing to the show through financial and in-kind support. The show will also be supported by close to 100 volunteers.

Proceeds from the show will go towards various Fellowship projects, with emphasis on assistance to military families and veterans.Close to $120,000 raised from past shows has been donated to various projects including the Moose Jaw Military Family Resource Centre, cadet organizations, Stars Ambulance, Moose Jaw Health Foundation, Wounded Warriors, Quilts of Valour, Support Our Troops, Make a Wish Foundation, Moose Jaw Transition House, Moose Jaw Food Bank, school scholarships, Remembrance Day observances and Salvation Army toy drives.

Information for potential food and display vendors or volunteers is available by calling 306-692-7357.
