Heartland Hospice's gala fundraiser to offer a memorable ‘Evening Under the Stars’

The May 26 event at Grant Hall will celebrate the life of former Saskatchewanian Elly Mayday and her journey with ovarian cancer, while raising awareness about Heartland Hospice's mission to provide end-of-life care.

Heartland Hospice plans to hold an “Evening Under the Stars” gala fundraiser on May 26 at Grant Hall to inspire, uplift and emotionally move people while raising money and awareness about the organization.

The evening will celebrate the life of former Saskatchewanian Elly Mayday and her journey with ovarian cancer. Mayday, from Aylesbury, became a glamorous iconic star in the world of plus-size modelling.

While battling cancer repeatedly, Mayday used her social media platforms with over 525,000 followers to speak to young women about their health and body image. She also flew among the stars as a flight attendant and was a star crusader in creating awareness and support for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Heartland Hospice said it is excited that Mayday’s family will attend the fundraiser as it commemorates her ongoing legacy.

Tickets for an “Evening Under the Stars” are $50 and can be purchased at Sasktix.ca or the Mosaic Place box office. There will be live music, an inspirational program with guest speakers, hor d’oeuvres, a silent auction and a ticket bar.

Heartland Hospice is also holding a raffle leading up to and at the event — allowing people who can’t attend to still contribute — featuring two draws for items that Saskatchewan artisans have created.

One item includes a 24-by-32-inch print called “Heartbreak and Hope” by Moose Javian Laura Hamilton, her salute to front-line workers. The other item is a lily pendant with Heartland Hospice’s emblem on an 18-inch silver chain by Regina jeweller Megan J. Hazel.

Tickets for these draws are $20 each or three for $50 and are available at the gala or by visiting rafflebox.ca/raffle/hhmj. The prize draw will be made during the gala.
All funds raised during the gala and raffle will go toward Heartland Hospice’s goal of creating a dedicated hospice space in Moose Jaw. The hospice will be an end-of-life haven for individuals and their families to be supported by a circle of compassionate care.

“We hope Moose Javians will join us for an inspirational ‘starlight celebration’ of Elly’s life and fundraiser for expanded hospice care in Moose Jaw,” the organization said.
