The local Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers chapter will be holding a Fabric, Yarn, & More sale on May 9 but first, the group needs some help from the public to make it possible.

G4G is welcoming donations of any kind of quilting, knitting, crocheting, or sewing items for their charity sale.

This includes clean unused material, yarn, buttons, lace, thread, sequins, knitting needles and crochet hooks, and just about anything else that may come in handy when crafting.

“What a person doesn’t use or can’t use anymore, another person might go, ‘oh, great I can make something with this,” said G4G member Marilyn Cropp Wall.

All of the proceeds from the sale will be sent to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which works on providing supports and services to orphans in Africa dealing with AIDS as well as their caregivers — which often end up being grandparents.

“There’s lots of countries involved over there, and there’s over three hundred plus programs that it will help run,” said Wall. “We're just trying to help people who don't have very much at all.”

G4G in Moose Jaw has been able to send $36,000 over the last decade to support the programs from the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

The Fabric Sale is a new fundraiser for the group this year, an idea that came from a member who passed away and left a collection of quilting fabric to the group.

“We wound up renting a couple of tables at the Zion Trade show and did very well selling this fabric,” said Wall. “And one of our members said maybe we should try having our own sale because it has worked so well in other communities.”

G4G will be accepting donations through until Apr. 15. Materials can be dropped off at Rainbow Retro on Main Street during their store hours, provided they are clearly marked as being for Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers.

A G4G member is also able to pick up donations within Moose Jaw, and can be contacted at 1 (306) 691-0386.

Any questions about the sale can be directed to 1 (306) 693-3848.

The group will also be holding a raffle on Apr. 9.

For right now, the upcoming meeting of Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers on Mar. 23 has been cancelled, as St. Aiden Anglican Church is closed to the public due to coronavirus precautionary measures.

The Fabric Sale is still currently proceeding as planned, but circumstances may change in the future.
