Don't miss the grand opening at 4 Plants for local artisans this Saturday, April 6

To meet the needs of shoppers wanting to buy goods manufactured by local artisans, and local artisans wanting to access retail customers, a local store has diversified into selling products made by local residents

4 Plants Indoor Gardening Supplies, located at 123 High Street West, is set to celebrate the arrival of several local artisans this Saturday, April 6th, with a grand opening event running from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The grand opening is an informal open house event where people can visit the shop and meet many of these artisans, Nyle Cockwill with 4 Plants said.

“Everything (near the front of the store) represents (the work of) about 15 different people,” Cockwill said. “They are local artisans.”

One person who farms locally will be selling eggs and jellies at the store. This is just one example of local producers being able to access customers at a retail level, he said.

The products being sold represent a vast spectrum of goods.

“Another lady does freeze-dried vegetables and fruit,” Cockwill stated, adding that another artisan will offer essential oils and Reiki products such as candles.

There’s also an artisan who designs and manufactures outdoor lighting for use around your home and garden.

“It’s a wide variety and spectrum of locally created and manufactured goods that are going to be available," he said.

The upcoming event will provide 4 Plants with a win-win situation where they can make some additional income from sales, while the artisans themselves will have access to a retail outlet to help sell their goods.

Many of these artisans now sell their products on Facebook or other e-commerce platforms, or else they'll go to local trade shows.

“It’s all local people who don’t (really have) any access to retail,” Cockwill noted.

“This gives the local artisans Monday - Saturday access to customers they may not (otherwise) be able to reach,” he said.

“It’s kind of an all-year-round trade show.”

Tomorrow, on Saturday, April 6, there will be a grand opening event at the store, which includes prizes and giveaways including free coffee.

“We just want people to come down and meet the artisans and check things out.”
