Casino Regina-Moose Jaw posted a $33 million turnaround in the 2021-22 year.

The two casinos went from a $13.9 million loss the previous year to a $19.2 million profit this year, according to the annual report.

The turnaround came as the casinos experienced fewer days of closure and restricted capacity from Covid-19 health measures.

Guest numbers were “down significantly” but no numbers were provided.

Casino profits were divided between the First Nations Trust and the Community Initiatives Fund.

The casino return on equity was a whopping 26 per cent.

While the casinos were closed, the operations took advantage of the down time to perform renovations. Regina renovations are mostly complete with work in Moose Jaw to come in the next fiscal year

The casino has also formed a 50-50 partnership with the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority to open an online casino in the province with slot games, poker and keno.

Opening is planned for the 2022-23 year.
