Have you recently travelled to an area that has confirmed cases of coronavirus? Are you planning to travel to one of these countries? Be sure to pay attention to new travel recommendations.

New jurisdictions are reporting cases of Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). As a result, Saskatchewan public health has updated its recommendations to residents and health care providers related to travel to and from countries with confirmed cases.

“The number of countries that have confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to grow,” Saskatchewan Ministry of Health’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said in a press release. “While the risk to residents travelling abroad remains low, people travelling to and from affected areas should monitor for fever, cough and difficulty breathing for 14 days after travel. If you have these symptoms, contact HealthLine 811 for assessment and direction.”

According to a government press release, the risk of COVID-19 to Saskatchewan residents remains low. As of February 27, there are no laboratory confirmed cases in the province.

Active travel health notices are available via Health Canada.

There are several recommendations travelers should keep in mind.

First, anyone who has travelled to Hubei province or another affected area should self-isolate at home for 14 days after leaving that area. Be sure to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 including cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. Do not go to public places or events. This includes school, university, work, daycare, sporting or social events, as well as religious gatherings.

If you have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, you must self-isolate for 14 days from your last contact and monitor for symptoms.

If you develop symptoms, seek immediate assistance.
