Cineplex has announced that a select few theatres in Saskatchewan will be reopening to the public this week, but the Galaxy Cinemas in Moose Jaw will not be one of them.
The Cineplex Cinemas in the Southland Mall in Regina and the Cineplex Cinemas at The Centre Mall in Saskatoon will be the only Saskatchewan locations opening their doors on July 3, as the entertainment company is taking a “phased approach to reopening.”
A number of safety protocols will be in place once theatres reopen, including new cleaning measures and procedures to help encourage proper social distancing.
Some other measures include reduced seating capacity and mandatory reserved seating in effect for all auditoriums, the use of floor stickers to indicate proper social distancing, and staggered showtimes to reduce traffic.
VIP theatres will remain closed for the time being, and some common areas will also be unavailable in certain theatres.
Cineplex is encouraging movie-goers to purchase their tickets online through the Cineplex website or mobile app, and to arrive no more than 15 minutes early for their showtime to avoid large groups of people in the lobby.
Theatres will also only be accepting debit, credit, or gift card payments for now, and concession items will be limited to popcorn and other core concessions.
“The past three months have given us a new appreciation for the importance of friends, and family, and the power of shared experiences with those we love,” said Cineplex president and CEO Ellis Jacob, in a press release. “Entertaining is what we do best, and we simply can’t wait to safely welcome guests back to our theatres for some much-deserved entertainment, fun, and escape.”
Cineplex anticipates that all of its theatres will reopen throughout the month of July, including Moose Jaw and three other locations in Saskatchewan, but those dates have yet to be determined.
More information on the safety procedures in place as Cineplex theatres reopen can be found on the Cineplex website.
