Funds doled out from SLGA charitable gaming grant

Groups in the Moose Jaw area to receive over $21,000

Groups across the province have received a bit of a helping hand, thanks to the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority’s (SLGA) charitable gaming grant program.

Nearly $1.2 million has been provided to more than 400 groups and organizations across the province during the quarter ended December 31.

“Volunteers that raise money in their community in support of new facilities, minor sports, education programs and so many other worthwhile causes are the people that make our province strong,” Minister Responsible for SLGA Gene Makowsky said in a press release. “Charitable gaming grants acknowledge those efforts by providing additional financial support to groups and organizations that conduct charitable gaming activities.”

Moose Jaw and area groups are among the recipients. A total of $21,055.49 has been doled out.

Charitable gaming includes bingos, raffles, breakopen tickets, Texas Hold’em poker and Monte Carlo events licensed by SLGA. Groups and organizations receive a grant equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised from these activities, up to a maximum grant of $100,000 annually.

Charitable gaming reports submitted by the groups are used by SLGA to automatically calculate grants.
