No matter your skill level, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors. That is because free fishing weekend in Saskatchewan will be held July 11 and 12.

This is an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to fish in any of Saskatchewan’s public waters that are open to sport fishing. No licence is required.

“Free fishing weekend is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors to discover — or re-discover — the wonderful angling opportunities our province offers,” Environment Minister Dustin Duncan said in a press release. “In Saskatchewan, you can stay close to home while enjoying some of the best freshwater fishing in the world.”

Please be aware of the following rules and restrictions:

  • anglers must respect current public health orders regarding COVID-19;
  • travel restrictions may be in effect for some areas;
  • free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks;
  • anyone taking fish out of the province must purchase a licence; and
  • all other fishing regulations remain in effect.

Free fishing weekend has been a tradition in Saskatchewan since the summer of 1989. The province held its first winter free fishing weekend back in 2015. The purpose of this weekend is to encourage people to try sport fishing and to highlight angling opportunities in the province.
