Fourth Avenue bridge closes today for installation of new catcher beam

The closure is necessary for crews to install the new beam beneath the north end of the bridge, which will support the existing bridge infrastructure.

The Fourth Avenue (Thunderbird Viaduct) bridge will be closed to vehicles from Jan. 17 to 28 as the City of Moose Jaw installs a catcher beam underneath the structure. 

The pedestrian walkways will remain open.

The closure is necessary for crews to install the new beam beneath the north end of the bridge, which will support the existing bridge infrastructure. during the closure, crews will also perform deck exploration work to determine the condition of the reinforcing steal.

The work is expected to be completed by Jan. 28, weather permitting.

All area businesses remain open, while drivers are asked to use Ninth Avenue Northwest or First Avenue Northeast to access South Hill.
 
The City of Moose Jaw reminds drivers and pedestrians to obey posted signage and exercise caution in work zones for the safety of everyone.
