1) Swedish fighter-jet maker Saab is voicing complaints about Ottawa's negotiations with Washington and U.S. defence giant Lockheed Martin to buy the F-35, saying such talks weren't supposed to be part of the process.

2) The effect of post-tropical storm Fiona on Atlantic Canada's fishing industry is still being tallied, but officials believe it will be bad.

3) Russia has vetoed a U.N. resolution that would have condemned its referendums in four Ukrainian regions as illegal.

4) Wall Street closed out a miserable September Friday with the S&P 500's worst monthly skid since March 2020, with the benchmark index ending the month with a 9.3% loss and posted its third straight losing quarter. 

5) The Conservatives' cheeky term for inflation under the Liberals has got some MPs into trouble in the House of Commons, where saying "Justinflation" has been deemed verboten.
