Only two games played due to postponements, Froehlich emerges with win over John’s Music in battle of league leaders

There might not have been a lot of action on the ice in Original 16 Cash League action on Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, but both games that did take place had implications at the top of the leaderboard.

In the end, Matt Froehlich remained all alone in the double-digit win club, improving to 11-3 with a 7-1 victory over John’s Music (Ryan Wenarchuk), who fell to 9-5 on the campaign.

Froehlich got off to a good start with a 3-1 lead through three ends, and after Wenarchuk blanked the fourth, would tack on another steal to take a four-point lead. Another Froehlich steal in the sixth, this time for three, brought things to an early end.

The only other game on the night saw EMJ Marketing (Joe Gunnis) improve to 3-12 with an upset win over Pro-Tec Electric (Stan Barnsley, 9-6), who also could have jumped into a tie for the league lead had things worked out differently.

Instead, Gunnis roared out to a 4-0 edge with deuces in each of the first two ends. Barnsley got two back in the third and stole another the next end to get back within one, but another Gunnis deuce made it 6-3. Barnsley picked up one with the hammer in the sixth and the two teams shook hands there.

The game between BTN Accountants (Penny Barker, 8-1) and KalTire (Dustin Woloschuk, 5-9) was postponed due to Barker leaving for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, while the contests between Fonger Wealth Management (Nick Cornea, 2-11) and Motion-Golden Mobility (Lorraine Arguin, 5-8) as well as KMS Construction (Ben Gamble, 9-2) and Walchuk Masonry (Tyler Krupski, 4-8) were also set back to a later date.

Original 16 Cash League action takes place every Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.
