Just in time for the busy holiday season, SGI has released an improved version of their Safe Ride app.
The app provides users with rideshare information, taxi and designated driving companies, and bus routes. Users can also add contact information to build their own list of designated drivers.
The app will use your location so that it can help identify what services are nearby. You can also choose to give the app permission to access your contact list, or you can enter you designated driver information manually.
Want to know how it works? SGI has a demo video available on their Facebook page.
“SGI is committed to reducing impaired driving in Saskatchewan, and this app has been helping people find a safe ride home since 2012,” said Penny McCune, Chief Operating Officer of the Auto Fund. “The latest technical upgrades mean a faster and easier user experience and include the addition of rideshare options now that these are available in some Saskatchewan communities. The refreshed look builds on our Be a Good Wingman message, reminding people to never let impaired friends and family drive."
According to SGI, impairment was a factor in 739 collisions in 2018. This resulted in 359 injuries and 43 deaths on Saskatchewan roads.
Looking for more safe ride options? The the city will once again partner with SGI to offer free transit service on New Year’s Eve. You will be able to ride the bus from 7:55 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 3:15 a.m. on January 1, 2020.
