The finalists have been decided in the Original 16 Cash League, and the championship game teams will come as little surprise to regular followers of the 10-team loop.
Matt Froehlich will face BTN Professional Accountants (Penny Barker) in the title match on Wednesday, Mar. 16 at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.
Froehlich, who finished with a 14-4 regular-season record, rolled to an 8-2 win over Pro-Tec Electric (Stan Barnsley, 12-6) in their semifinal on Mar. 10, while Barker (9-9) found herself in a close battle with KMS Construction (Ben Gamble, 14-4) before taking a 6-5 victory.
For Froehlich, it was all about the fast start. He scored three in the second end and stole two more in the third for a quick 5-1 lead, and after Barnsley got one back the next frame, picked up three over the next two ends to bring things to an early completion.
Barker -- who was 9-1 in regular-season games played but defaulted eight contests due to her run to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts -- took a 3-1 lead out of the fourth end, but Gamble picked up a deuce before the break to tie things up. The two teams exchanged single points the next two ends to head into the final frame tied 4-4, where Barker would use the hammer to take the one-point win.
Other action on the night saw KalTire (Dustin Woloschuk) defeat John’s Music (Ryan Wenarchuk) 7-2. Motion-Golden Mobility (Lorraine Arguin) down EMJ Marketing (Joe Gunnis) 6-5 in an extra end and Fonger Wealth Management (Nick Cornea) scored points over the final three ends to defeat Walchuk Masonry (Tyler Krupski) 6-5.
The Original 16 Cash League championship final will take place on Wednesday, Mar. 16 at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, with action getting underway at 7:30 p.m.
