UPDATE:

The Trans-Canada Highway is now open.

UPDATE:

11:08 a.m. -- The Moose Jaw RCMP has issued an update informing the public that multiple semis continue to block the Trans-Canada Highway between Parkbeg and Mortlach.

As a result, the highway remains closed on both the eastbound and westbound lanes.

At least five semi units were involved in a number of collisions in the area and one additional semi jackknifed at approximately 10:50 a.m. This accident occurred when the "kilometres-long lineup" started to slowly move forward, according to an official statement.

Police are advising motorists to exercise extreme caution in the area as police officers and other responders are working on and near the highway to get the road open. Many of these responders are working outside of their vehicles.

Travel is still not recommended as this section of road is sloped downward and the highway surface is extremely icy.

Moose Jaw RCMP and Morse RCMP detachments remain on the scene and are asking the public to avoid the area at this time.

An estimated time for the re-opening of the Trans-Canada Highway remains unknown. When it does re-open, motorists are advised to proceed with caution and to only travel if necessary.

Police advise all motorists to check the Highway Hotline before travelling.

Further updates will be provided as they become available.
