With the 2022 edition of the Moose Jaw Hometown Parade now in the books the attention turns to the actual Moose Jaw Hometown Fair to be held at the MJ Exhibition Grounds (250 Thatcher Drive East).

While on the grounds there is plenty of free entertainment starting first with the premiere event - the four performances by the RCMP Musical Ride.

Much has be written and said about the RCMP Musical Ride’s appearance but there is also other free entertainment to be had at the Hometown Fair.

One of the newcomers to the Hometown Fair’s line-up this year is the local act Magic By Chris.

Chris is well known locally working his way up from performing to family and friends, to children’s birthday parties, to corporate events and finally performing on-stage in front of hundreds of people.

“It started when I was pretty young. I am one of those guys who got one of those magic kits out of the Sear’s wishbook for Christmas and I kind of learnt everything from there,” he said.

“I showed it to family and friends and got things started.”

A much older cousin showed Chris even more magic and the magic bug stuck.

“He showed me more of the advanced stuff. And then over the years he showed me how it worked and from there I started reading books, watching DVDs and ordering things myself to kind of keep expanding what I knew.”

This will be the first time Chris has performed at the Moose Jaw Hometown Fair and it will be the largest audience he has ever performed for doing strolling magic.

“I will be walking around showing people stuff. When they are waiting for rides and just waiting for things to happen.”

He has performed in front of larger audiences from a stage at a scheduled performance.

“I think the Fair as far as strolling and walking about that will be the biggest.”

“When I was a kid it was just a hobby. I didn’t think it would go anywhere but it is actually been going really good now.”

Although magic is not Chris’s main source of income it is something that he loves doing.

Asked if he was looking forward to performing at the Fair Chris said “I am. I am hoping to meet a lot of new people, get my name out there a bit more and see what that goes. For all I enjoy doing it, it is a joy to see the smiles on the face of the kids and the parents too.”

As part of his being at the Hometown Fair Chris along with Mr Circus are set to entertain the people waiting for the RCMP Musical Ride.

“I am looking forward to it. I reached out to Mr Circus and we are going to connect a bit before and see how we can work together and see how we can enhance each others performances.”

Already Mr Circus has made an impression with the local children and those who are kids at heart by performing during the Hometown Fair Parade on Wednesday evening.

Although his act in the parade could be describes as simple. His ability to guide a multi-colour ribbon on a pole was mesmerizing and drew appreciation from children and parent alike along the route.

Blast From The Past is a reptile show with three shows daily plus additionally there will be two roving hours including dinosaurs.

This is a highly popular Saskatchewan show where Wrangler Elisa’s stage show is geared towards both young and old.

Come out and see some of the most amazing reptiles up close.

Other entertainment at the Fair will be the ever popular The Canine Stars who will once again be providing three shows daily. The Canine Stars were on America’s Got Talent in 2021.
