The Labour Day weekend is always a busy one on Saskatchewan’s roads as people celebrate the last big celebration of the summer. With a potential increase in the traffic this weekend, SGI and Saskatchewan RCMP are reminding motorists to drive safely.
In 2019, Saskatchewan RCMP responded to 55 collisions during the September long weekend. Although none of the collisions were fatal, two did result in serious injuries.
Be sure to plan ahead and check the Highway Hotline for road conditions or construction updates.
Reduce distractions and keep your smart phone safely tucked away. Arrange for a designated driver, if needed.
With harvest operations in full swing, you may need to share the road with farm equipment. Remain attentive, be patient, and slow down, particularly when passing.
“Practicing safe driving is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you’re driving to see your family, heading to the lake or enjoying the open roads, let’s make this September long weekend a safe one for everyone,” said Sgt. Garnet Waldbauer, Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan.
