Drive safe and be sure to pay attention to construction zones.
That is the message from the Government of Saskatchewan heading into this weekend and prior to Canada Day on Wednesday.
Drivers must obey posted signs and flag persons and slow down to 60 km/h when driving through work zones. Be advised that, in some cases, temporary speed reductions are in place even when workers are not in present. This is due to hazards like sharp pavement drop-offs, lane closures, and loose gravel.
Check the Highway Hotline for information about road construction prior to leaving for your destination. This will help you plan accordingly so you can arrive safely and on time. A weekly construction update also provides residents with the latest details on projects underway throughout the summer and fall. You can also find information about emergency road closures, the status of ferries, barges and other road activities.
“Our government continues to make significant investments in highways and infrastructure to get our products to market and citizens to their destinations safely,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Greg Ottenbreit said in a press release. “With construction season in full swing, people going to the lake or visiting friends this Canada Day weekend can expect to see construction zones. So please plan ahead, pay close attention, and slow down for everyone’s safety.”
