They’ll have practiced and played against each other dozens of times in the lead-up to the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship, but Saskatchewan’s two entries into the event will be doing it for real to open the tournament on Sunday, Mar. 24.
Saskatchewan 1 and Saskatchewan 2 will face off during the first draw at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 24 at the Moose Jaw Curling Centre, one of five games to take the ice on the first day of competition.
Saskatchewan 1 is the defending champion and will be comprised of skip and Team Canada member Gil Dash, third Marie Wright, second Moose Gibson and lead Sheryl Pederson.
Saskatchewan 2 will have a largely rookie flavour, with only skip Rod Pederson returning and newcomers third Pete Andrews, second Mark Kennedy, lead Zahra Ehsani and alternate Tara Hess making up the rest of the team.
A total of 11 rinks will take part in the week-long event, playing a 10-team round-robin. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals and finals on Saturday, Mar. 30.
