The Downtown Moose Jaw Association (DMJA) is hosting its first-ever “Little Chicago Show & Shine” car show, set to occupy Main Street on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — over 100 vehicles have registered already.

“This is our Downtown Association fall event,” explained Alex Carlton, owner of The Crushed Can Rec Room & Bar and a board member of the DMJA. “Obviously we’re trying to beautiful our downtown and at the same time create attractions to bring more and more people downtown."

Over 100 cars have been registered so far and Carlton is hopeful that this first year will draw out at least 150.

The Show & Shine coincides with the 34th annual Toy Run Parade by the Moose Jaw Cycle Association (MJCA). The Toy Run collects Christmas gifts for distribution by the Salvation Army in Moose Jaw.

The Toy Run starts at 2 p.m. and will also be using Main Street, making Moose Jaw’s downtown the absolute place to be for "motorheads." It means that on the Sept. 17, hundreds of motorcycles will share the street — at least briefly — with hundreds of show cars.

“People can register online, and it is really important that people register because we want to know how many blocks of Main Street we are in need of,” Carlton said.

“We have some nice awards and category awards and we’re really just hoping to put on another fantastic event downtown,” he added. “We have live music on two different stages and Magic by Chris for the kids and lots of wonderful downtown businesses for people to check out.”

Jason Gervais, known as the frontman for bands such as Men Without Shame and Wonderland, will be performing solo on one stage. The other stage will be occupied by 2 Easy, a duo act performing classic rock.

The first 150 vehicles to register for the Little Chicago Show & Shine will receive welcome bags and display plaques for their dashes. Interested owners can contact Carlton at 306-684-1982 or by email at [email protected]. The website can also be used, at downtownmoosejaw.ca.

Vehicles must pre-register to participate.
