With students enjoying a week off of school, the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre felt it was the perfect time to begin showing classic films again.
From Tuesday to Saturday, the Cultural Centre will host Movie Mania, screening five classic children's films with a screening at 2 p.m. all week and then another at 6:30 p.m. on four of the nights.
"With the schools out this week because of Family Day, we decided it would be a good time to showcase classic kids movies" said Derik Cronan, general manager of the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre. "It's a way for us to get back into showing movies, which is something that fell to the wayside a little last year because of timing and because we were so busy the majority of the year."
Movie Mania features a trio of Disney animated classics: Pinocchio, Lady and the Tramp and Alice in Wonderland , plus E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Annie from 1982.
The Cultural Centre had put on cinema series in the past and Cronan is pleased that they have been able to work screening films into the schedule this year.
The Cultural Centre has more cinema series planned for later this year, but are still working on finalizing dates.
"We have a couple that are planned, we're just looking for appropriate dates for them," Cronan said. "It is something that we tried to fit into the schedule last year, but pretty much every weekend we were busy with a show or a school event that was taking place here.
"The next one that we have planned will be one of the Coen Brothers' movies — so Fargo, the Big Lebowski and a few others."
Admission to each movie during Movie Mania is $5. Entry is free with a donation of a non-perishable food item to the Moose Jaw and District Food Bank.
Popcorn and beverages will also be available. Advance tickets are available by phone or at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre Box Office.
