Cowboy poets entertain at Doc’s Town event

A published cowboy poet was one of two entertaining at Swift Current’s Doc Town Village on July 25.

Local rancher and poet Bryce Burnett has published two books of cowboy poetry, titled Homegrown and Other Poems and Horses, Dogs and Wives.

A third book featuring his work, Fun On The Farm, is also being published by Driver Works Inc. of Regina. 

Homegrown won the poetry category in 2014 at the Great West Book Festival in Chicago.

Among his poems was one about the old one-room school houses. His school had eight students in seven grades.

Local rancher Brian Anderson’s cowboy poetry included a piece about an individualistic rancher neighbour.

Walter Gale of Hodgeville and a member of his band, sang old songs and played music.

The pie shop at Doc’s Town did a brisk business with the menu including flapper, lemon, saskatoon, rhubarb/strawberry, sour cream raisin and peach pies.
