Executive committee and regular council meetings will continue to be held every second and fourth Monday of the month, or on a Tuesday if Monday is a holiday.

Residents interested in attending city council meetings now have a better idea of when those meetings will be held after city hall released the 2022 schedule.

During its Oct. 25 executive committee meeting, council unanimously approved a recommendation to support its regular and executive committee meetings calendar for next year.

The recommendation will become official when council approves it at a future regular meeting.

Sticking to the existing schedule, executive committee and regular council meetings will be held every second and fourth Monday, or on a Tuesday if Monday is a holiday. The chairperson of the executive committee can call the meetings at any time, with the public portion usually starting at 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, regular meetings commence at 5:30 p.m.

The calendar for 2022 shows that meetings — Mondays unless otherwise noted — will be held on:

  • Jan. 10 and 24
  • Feb. 15 (Tuesday) and 28
  • March 14 and 28
  • April 11 and 25
  • May 9 and 24 (Tuesday)
  • June 13 and 27
  • July 11 and 25
  • Aug. 8 and 22
  • Sept. 12 and 26
  • Oct. 11 (Tuesday) and 24
  • Nov. 14 and 28
  • Dec. 12

City manager Jim Puffalt told council that city administration scheduled only one meeting in December next year because the end of November and the beginning of December are when council engages in budget discussions. Once those discussions are over, the next possible date to meet in December would be Dec. 26 — Boxing Day during the Christmas break.

“When it comes to the end of November, we will be meeting twice weekly to get the budget in and have the budget done by Christmas,” he added. “That allows us, if we need another meeting, to schedule that. The mayor can also call a special meeting if there is anything urgent to bring to council’s attention.”

Council appointments

During the regular section of council’s meeting on Oct. 25, the following appointments were made:

  • Coun. Jamey Logan has been appointed deputy mayor from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, or until a successor is appointed
  • Coun. Crystal Froese has been named chairwoman of the executive committee from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, or until a successor is appointed
  • Coun. Heather Eby has been appointed chairwoman of the personnel committee from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, or until a successor is appointed

The next regular council meeting is Monday, Nov. 8.
