In February 2017, Moose Jaw Community Choir was formed. It started with a group of nine people who decided to create an opportunity for Moose Jaw’s people to sing four-part-harmony for fun.

Participation has increased to around 80 members now.

“We're always open to having new members come especially male singers,” said Mary Calhoun, manager of Moose Jaw Community Choir. “We never have enough men in the Choir, but yes, anyone’s welcome to come.”

“Moose Jaw Community Choir is an amateur SATB (soprano, alto tenor and bass) Choir with a mission to have fun, create beautiful music together, and share it with the community,” she added.

In April, the choir held an informal charity concert and raised around $1200 for the Canadian Red Cross: Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal, which is supporting Ukrainians who fled from their homes after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.\

The first rehearsal this year will be held on Monday, Sept. 12 at the First Free Methodist Church Moose Jaw at 7 p.m.  Afterward, every Monday practice will be between 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Those who loves singing are welcome to join in.  There will be no auditions for participants but a one-time $25 membership registration fees to cover the cost of music or any other expenses.

Calhoun said the choir sings a variety of music, and will be singing in senior’s home during the Christmas season. She believes they just sing for fun to get out and let people enjoy their music.

After a short break for Christmas holidays, the choir will be back in January and will continue to sing through to spring, with the hope of performing a concert in the spring if everything goes well.
