Colts hold off Assiniboia for senior ladies fastball win

Big lead early translates into 11-8 victory for defending champions
The Park Hotel Colts put plenty of runs on the board early against the Assiniboia Aces and that translated into an 11-8 win in Moose Jaw Senior Ladies Fastball action on Thursday night.

Playing in hot and humid conditions at Caribou Heights, the Colts’ first four batters – Ceanna Bruce, Deleigh Lacelle, Keri Legare and Jasmine Cameron – all came around to score as Park Hotel batted through the order in the opening frame.

After Assiniboia got one back in the second, the Colts would again send nine batters to the plate in the third, scoring another four runs and building their edge to 8-1.

The Aces wouldn’t go quietly, though, and looked to claw their way back into things with three runs in the third before the two teams exchanged single markers in the fourth.

Another two-spot in the fifth gave the Colts their 11th run, and Assiniboia would score three in their half of the inning before the game was called.

Bruce, Legare and Cameron all scored two runs each, while Ally Gallagher reached base three times and scored a run.

Raina Peterson and Lakida Peterson each crossed the plate twice for the Aces.

Jade Waiting was the winning pitcher, Sarah Feeley took the loss.

The teams will rematch on Monday in the early game, with Assiniboia taking on the Heat in the nightcap.
