Al Bromley, the director of human resource services with the City of Moose Jaw, has decided to retire after 10 years in his position with the city.

City council accepted Bromley’s retirement notice “with regret” during the Sept. 27 regular meeting. His retirement is official on Friday, Oct. 1.

Bromley started working for the city as director of HR services in 2011 and has been a critical person to the municipality’s success, said city manager Jim Puffalt. He leaves behind a “tremendous” strategic, transformational HR services department that meets and supports city hall’s goal of having a sense of purpose.

“He often noted that human resources has to be as much transformational as transactional. He walked that talk, and due to his efforts, the City of Moose Jaw’s succession planning program was recognized by our peers as one of the best in the country,” Puffalt continued.

“We wish him all the best in his years of retirement.”

Other members of city council also praised Bromley’s work over the years.

“I’ve only worked with Mr. Bromley for half of the time he’s been here at the city, but I know I have been on his doorstep a few times looking for advice in certain circumstances … ,” said Coun. Crystal Froese. “I just want to wish you the very best. I going to miss your wisdom around this table, but most of all, I think we’re going to miss your sense of humour.”

Before Bromley began working at city hall, he spent several years working in human resources for a manufacturing company in Regina and with a post-secondary institution.

The next regular council meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 12.
