The City of Moose Jaw is advising residents and tourists that it plans to spend two weeks repaving the intersection of Main Street and Thatcher Drive later this summer.

Contractors will mill and pave the intersection and a short section of the westbound lane on the east side of the intersection. The work will occur in two phases.

This initiative is one of 48 capital projects that city council approved in the 2023 budget.

During the week of Aug. 21, crews will mill and pave the westbound lane on the east side of the intersection. Traffic will be temporarily diverted to the eastbound lane, resulting in two-way traffic in the work zone.

During the week of Aug. 28, contractors will mill and pave the intersection. The traffic accommodation and detouring during this phase will be extensive, with traffic re-routed along the west service road and around Diefenbaker Drive.

City hall expects the project will take roughly two weeks to complete, weather permitting. After confirming the schedule with contractors, it will issue a more detailed timeline and detour map.

This project is a continuation and completion of the Ministry of Highways’ work on Main Street that began in 2022. The ministry is funding the repaving of the intersection.

“Significant detours will be in place during the project and all businesses in the construction area will remain open. The city asks all drivers to obey posted signage and slow down in work zones for the safety of everyone,” city hall said.

The City of Moose Jaw thanks motorists for their co-operation and patience while it improves municipal infrastructure. If residents have any further questions, they contact the Department of Engineering Services at 306-694-4596 or use the “Report an Issue” feature on the free city app.
