City permanently closes Coteau Street East bridge to vehicles

The City of Moose Jaw has permanently closed the Coteau Street East bridge to vehicular traffic.

The city has recently completed condition assessments of the bridge through a structural engineering consultant. Evaluations of the 110 year old structure, completed this year have revealed that bridge conditions have significantly deteriorated to the point that they now pose an unacceptable risk to vehicular traffic.

The city has placed concrete road blocks to prevent vehicular access across the bridge. Pedestrian access is still accessible at this time.

The last time city council discussed this bridge was in May 2022, when it decided to shutter the structure permanently — including to people — by 2027, even though many residents attempted to convince council to save the bridge for pedestrians so they could safely access Wakamow Valley.
