Today is about celebrating and empowering the women in our lives.
March 8 is International Women’s Day. It is about highlighting the achievements of women, while also advocating for the need for gender parity and advancing women’s rights. International Women’s Day was first recognized in 1911.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is “Choose to Challenge.”
Here in Moose Jaw, a special Zoom event will be held later today, hosted by the Moose Jaw Multicultural Centre. The Moose Jaw Express/MooseJawToday.com will have more on this event later.
Meanwhile, the Government of Saskatchewan's Status of Women Office is highlighting three female leaders in the fields of advocacy, agriculture and sport.
This includes Kendra Weenie, an award nominated author and inspirational speaker from Sweetgrass First Nation; Shelby Newkirk, an entrepreneur and para-swim athlete from Saskatoon; and Cherilyn Jolly-Nagel, a farmer and speaker, working in the agriculture industry from Mossbank.
