Cyclones take 32-7 lead out of opening quarter, go on to 105-59 win, to face Peacock for city title on Tuesday night

The Central Cyclones didn’t waste any time getting things going during their Moose Haw high school boys basketball league semifinal against Notre Dame on Saturday night.

Mo Jabateh and Tommy Vincent combined for six three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes at Central, building a 32-7 lead, and the Cyclones would never look back on their way to a 105-59 victory.

The contest ended up as one of the best of the season for Vincent, as he drained no less than seven treys throughout the night and capped the contest with 30 points. Jabateh -- who like Vincent had three three-pointers in the first quarter -- also had an impressive showing with 24 points. Kaedyn Banilevic contributed 12 to their cause, Ammiel Chin added 11.

John Lopez had another solid night for the Hounds with 21 points, Michael Xiong added 12.

The Cyclones, 8-0 in the regular season,  will now look to cap off a perfect campaign in the local league when they take on the 6-2 Peacock Toilers in the city final on Tuesday night.

As their records would indicate, Central won both regular-season meetings between the two teams, but things were very interesting in their first match-up, a 95-90 Central win back on Dec. 21. The two teams didn’t meet again until Mar. 1, when the Cyclones picked up a 96-79 win.

Both the boys and girls city championship games will be played at Peacock on Tuesday, with the girls game between the Vanier Spirits and Central Cyclones going at 6:20 p.m., followed by the boys final at 8 p.m.
