Cole Wilson and the Central Cyclones will be playing for a medal at the 4A boys volleyball provincial championship.

The Central Cyclones will be playing for bronze at the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association 4A boys provincial volleyball championship.

And if everything goes according to plan, they’ll be one of three teams from the local league bringing home hardware once things wrap up on Saturday night.

The Cornerstone Chrisitan School Falcons also reached the medal games at the 2A boys championship in Ponteix, while the Assiniboia Rockets are well on the way to defending their 3A boys title at that tournament in Unity.

Central capped their round robin with a 2-2 record, winning their final game Friday 27-25, 25-19 over the Vanier Vikings and then dropping a 25-21, 25-21 decision to Meadow Lake to close out the preliminary round Saturday.

That sent the Cyclones into the quarter-final, where they’d take a 25-16, 25-18 win over Saskatoon E.D. Feehan to book their semifinal match with North Battleford John Paul II, where they’d fall in two sets to the top-ranked Crusaders.

Central was to play Melfort for bronze later Saturday.

The Vikings rebounded from their loss with a crucial 25-16, 16-25, 16-14 win over Humboldt in their last round robin game, but couldn’t keep the momentum going and fell 25-18, 25-10 to Melfort in the quarters.

The Cornerstone Chrisitan School Falcons will be playing for bronze after falling 25-21, 25-13 Makwa in their semifinal.

After winning their first two games, the Falcons finished 2-2 in the round robin, losing 25-19, 25-19 to Birch Hills late Friday and 25-20, 26-24 to Makwa early Saturday. Their quarter-final was far better as Cornerstone pulled off the mild upset with a 25-22, 27-25 win over Wilkie.

The Falcons will now face Ponteix in the bronze medal game.

Assiniboia continued to roll along in their provincial quest, finishing the round robin 4-0 after defeating Clavet 25-19, 25-17 Friday and Osler VCA 25-22, 25-19 Saturday.

It was much of the same once the playoffs started, as the Rockets rolled past Kipling 25-21, 25-21 in the quarters and battled to a 21-25, 25-17, 15-12 victory over Regina Christian to book their spot in the gold medal game.
