The history of market garden and greenhouse production in the Moose Jaw river valley will be celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. with the placement and unveiling of heritage plaques telling the story of local projects.

Special recognition is given to Evans Florists, the Churchill Park Greenhouse Co-op and the Wakamow Community Garden project. The long history of pre-settlement hunting and gathering in the valley by numerous tribal nations of the prairie region will also be acknowledged.

The ceremony and unveiling will occur near the gazebo on the south side of Churchill Park — south on First Avenue Southeast past Grandview Street West — close to the riverbank. Parking is available on the east and west side of Churchill park, south of Wellesley Street.

Members of the public and former greenhouse or market garden staff and board members and their families are encouraged to attend. The event is anticipated to last roughly 30 minutes.
