Canucks Red take take tough loss at hands of Expos in 13U AAA action

Fast start paves way for 15-3 Regina victory in Baseball Regina league action

The Moose Jaw Canucks Red knew they were going to be in for a tough test against the Regina Expos in Baseball Regina 13U AAA action on Wednesday night, and that’s exactly how things turned out.

The first-place Expos scored five runs in the first and built a 9-0 lead through two innings before going on a 15-3 victory at Andrie Diamond.

Moose Jaw fell to 2-16-1 with the loss and remain in eighth place in the league standings, while Expos improved to 16-3-0 and hold down top spot.

It was a tough night at the plate for the Canucks as they managed only three hits, but they’d take advantage of four walks and a pair of singles off the bats of Dax Chesney and Rhett Benaschuk to put up their three runs in the fourth inning.

Rylan Gray had Moose Jaw’s other hit.

Chesney got the start and allowed five runs, four earned, on a hit and four walks while getting two outs in the first inning. Gray tossed the next 2 ⅓ and surrendered four runs, two earned, on five hits before Brady Novak finished things off, giving up six runs on six hits over the final three innings.

The Canucks close out their regular season this Sunday with a doubleheader against the Moose Jaw Canucks Black. Game times are 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Andrie Diamond.

The Canucks Black have a busy schedule to close out their regular season. They’re in Swift Current on Thursday before travelling to Yorkton for a doubleheader Saturday and finishing off against the Canucks Red on Sunday.
